National Donut Day at Red the Steakhouse

In honor of National Donut Day (June 5th), Chef Peter of Red, the Steakhouse will be offering a sweet treat in the form of a trio of donuts, including Boston Cream, Red Velvet and Bacon-Butterscotch.  These delicious little morsels are only available this weekend, so better act fast as not to miss out! In case you were wondering how this precious holiday began, we have included a vital history lesson your elementary textbooks foolishly overlooked.

History of National Donut Day

Donut Day came to pass due to the efforts of a doctor in the military in the first World War who sought to brighten the day of the wounded soldiers he worked on by offering them a donut.  One man the doctor helped was a Lieutenant General by the name of Samuel Geary who greatly appreciated the help on his leg, and the donut, so he decided to make a fund raiser to give every wounded soldier, and the needy a sweet treat.  This fund raiser was later joined with the Salvation Army in the late 1930’s.
