Miami’s First Sommelier Slam: A Wine Off

Uvaggio Wine Bar & Restaurant is pleased to announce its first “Sommelier Slam” on Thursday May 21 at 7:00 p.m. Head “Wine-O,” Heath Porter of Uvaggio will go pour-to-pour against Michael Schwartz’s wine director of The Genuine Hospitality Group, Eric Larkee, as wine enthusiasts enjoy a three course dinner with two pairings selected for each dish. Attending guests will also be tasked with choosing which sommelier paired the meal best overall. Not only will the “slammer” have bragging rights and call the next slam, but he will also win a very unique trophy.

“It’s going to be a killer gig, great eats, crisp juice and lots of giggles,” said Heath Porter. “I guess the only thing we don’t know is how ‘skinny’ Larkee’s jeans will be and how many flavors of Boone’s Farm he’ll be pouring.” After being greeted with sparkling bubbles and a selection; of fine cheeses and charcuterie, guests will take their positions in Uvaggio’s intimate 25-seat dining room for the Sommelier Slam to commence. With his home court advantage, Uvaggio will execute the first and third “round” of plates while the second dish will be prepared by The Cypress Room’s Chef de Cuisine Roel Alcudia. After each course, participants will vote on whether he or she preferred Porter or Larkee’s pairings. Following the final pairing, votes will be tallied and the crowning ceremony will commence along with a dessert finale for the evening. “Really looking forward to this,” says Larkee. “I know the food will be great and wine will be fantastic…I’m just wondering which Bourbon Heath will pair with his disappointment.”

Cost per person is $75 with tax and excluding gratuity, which includes the reception, three courses with a total of six wines and dessert. For reservations visit  www.UvaggioWine.com  or call (305) 448-2400.
