Lightkeepers – Oceanfront Coastal Fare and Crafted Cocktails

Lightkeepers is a bright and airy spot located right on the gorgeous bay of the beautiful Key Biscayne area of Miami. The restaurant is modern with a local touch, its name derived from the esteemed Cape Florida lighthouse that guides ships into harbor with its eternal light. The ambiance and décor reminds you of a beachside house with a fun contemporary twist. The kitchen is presided over by Executive Chef Raul A. Del Pozo, who gained his passion for cooking through fishing off the Floridian waters. He has previously worked for several renowned restaurants such as Alinea in Chicago and Le Bouley in NYC. His expertise is wonderfully reflected in the dishes we tasted on a lovely Saturday afternoon brunch. We are big fans of Lightkeepers, check out our previous glowing review of them.

Lightkeepers Mimosas

Brunch and bubbles go hand in hand, so of course we started off with some mimosas with our appetizers. They were the perfect mix of house champagne and orange juice! We paired these with the amazing Keeper’s Wife Biscuits and Beets and Burrata salad. The biscuits were absolutely foodgasmic! Soft and flaky, they were basted with Keez Beez local honey butter and infused with bacon essence. The beets and burrata was the perfect complement, made with roasted and raw beets, local burrata, heirloom cherry tomatoes, foraged mushrooms, and pumpkin oil. The burrata was divine and so creamy, and the pumpkin oil really added a delicious extra layer of flavor to the dish.

Lightkeepers Beets Buratta

Following those we chose the blackened mahi sandwhich as the definite favorite! Tender and flavorful blackened mahi with garden lettuces, heirloom tomato, and an amazing garlic aioli. It also came with a side of the most delectable lobster mac and cheese that I have ever had. It is currently lobster season so the taste was so fresh and flavorful with a generous amount of lobster snuggled in with Velveeta Béchamel and Winter Park Dairy Cheddar. It was to die for!

The desserts were as lovely to eat as they were to look at, with a sampling of the Bucket of Beignets, Meyer Lemon Tart, and Keez Beez Honey Rum cake offered to us. The winner was certainly the Bucket of Beignets! These treats tasted as if they had come from New Orleans themselves! They were garnished with passion fruit and valrhona chocolate sauces and absolutely incredible!
