Gastón Acurio to Make Special Appearance

 

Capturing the breathtaking cityscape and expansive views of Biscayne Bay, La Mar by Gastón Acurio at Mandarin Oriental, Miami is proud to open its doors in benefit of the James Beard Foundation.  On Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 7pm, Executive Chef Diego Oka will present a special evening starting with a Pisco and Cebiche reception on the restaurant’s stunning waterfront terrace, followed by a prix fixe dinner of Peruvian specialties, offered at USD 75 per person.  Replete with a special appearance by world-renowned Chef Gastón Acurio, guests are invited to indulge with cause and in support of the Foundation’s fund and a scholarship program created by La Mar to benefit Johnson & Wales University’s culinary arts program in Miami.

La Mar’s Friends of James Beard Benefit Dinner menu will include a Pisco Sour welcome reception serving Peruvian gems from the Cebiche Bar such as Clasico, fluke with cilantro, aji limon peppers, red onions, choclo, and clasico leche de tigre (tiger’s milk); and Nikkei, tuna with red onions, nori, avocado, daikon, cucumber, and nikkei tamarind leche de tigre.  Hors d’oeuvres Cangrejo Causas, beet causas with crab, avocado, huancaína sauce, kale, cherry tomatoes and quail eggs, and Nikkei Tiraditos, tuna with rocoto peppers, scallions, passion fruit leche de tigre and honey–sesame reduction, will precede the family-style serving of Chaufa Aeropuerto, chinese sausage with roasted pork, pan-fried rice, shrimp omelet, nikkei sauce, and pickled salad, and Whole Fish Nikkei, catch of the day with peruvian–japanese spicy sauce, bok choy, and white chaufa broccoli rice.  An authentic Chica Morada Sorbet (purple corn sorbet) will be offered for dessert.
