KAABOO del Mar 2016 – Food, Music, and More!

KAABOO del Mar 2016 certainly made for an unforgettable last weekend of summer. The three day festival— incorporating music, comedy, food, and spa amenities—is the right experience for concert lovers unwilling to rough it. Located at San Diego’s Del Mar Racetrack and fairgrounds, KAABOO del Mar 2016 had everything.

Food

A KAABOO guest experienced artisanal fare that’s way more tasteful than at a typical music festival. Palate represents the most upscale culinary environment of our “mix-perience”, where you can sample local and regional delicacies and small-batch specialties from a variety of carefully selected culinary artisans. My personal favorite bites included Chicken Fingers and Fries (a classic,) Rita’s Italian Ice’s Ice Cream in a Cake Bowl, and Jam and Butter’s Breakfast Burrito. I kid you not, it was filled with spinach, cheese, sausage, bacon, eggs, and french fries! Thank goodness for that burrito, too, because I got immediately day drunk off their delicious Butter Chardonnay. I also fell in love with Health Ade’s Kombucha. With so much alcohol and festival food consumed, it was awesome to discover a bubbly pro-biotic tea, which is good for you and tasty!

Art

KAABOO del Mar 2016 featured a variety of contemporary public art installations, some in place when you arrive and others created live onsite during the event. It was incredible. Over the course of three days, I witnessed full murals and installations invented before my eyes. As music blared and concert goers partied, artists mastered their craft creating pieces all around us.

Indulgences

A unique feature of KAABOO is Indulgences, the indoor fashion, spa and relaxation zone. Recharge yourself!  Enjoy a massage, hair blow-out or makeup consultation, among other spa services for men and women.   Then get a fashion refresh!  Find your personal style with a fashion consultation or just peruse the exciting boutique shopping experience. I was THRILLED that I had the chance to try out fun new hairdos and makeup all weekend long. I fell in love with Colorescience products. They are perfect for a weekend spent outdoors, especially their brush on sunscreen and SPF lip gloss. And I’m already DryBar’s biggest fan, so the fact that I could get my hair blown out at the festival for free was almost too much for me to handle.

Music

Here are just a few photos from an incredible weekend of music! I was most excited to see The Chainsmokers. Their music is my favorite to work out to because it just always feels like a party. And seeing them live was indeed a party. We got to the stage early, but definitely not early enough because it looked as though the crowds had been forming for hours. It was such a blast when they came out. Their energy is contagious. Jason Isbell was probably the performer I was most impressed by. His fans are die hard and definitely not the same people I saw at Chainsmokers. But he’s one of my boyfriend’s favorite artists, so we made our way up to the very edge of the stage for his show. It was worth it. He is a true musician. Echosmith, Grouplove, and the Mowglis were definitely my other weekend highlights.
