Grub Burger Bar Review – Get Your Grub On

Grub Burger Bar Dallas

When visiting Dallas, you are bound to run into a top of the line burger joint around just about every corner you turn, with The Grub Burger Bar being no exception to the Dallas norm. Although great burgers are expected coming from the great state of Texas, Grub presents their burgers in a way that will leave any burger fanatic craving more and more. This modern take on the classic burger bar is quickly closing the gap on other, more established, burger hot spots in the DFW area. With their exceptionally friendly wait staff, wonderful management, and out of this world burgers, Grub is not something to be missed.

Originally opening up in College Station, TX, Grub Burger Bar has definitely made it’s presence felt not only in Texas, but also in such cities as Philadelphia and Tallahassee, FL as they are expecting to open up a total of 12 Grubs across the nation by the end of August 2015. With this exceptional growth Grub will soon become a household name with the help of their great managerial staff. When we were setting up our appointment with the Grub in Dallas, we were more than impressed with the professional and kindred spirit that Lindsey Green, the Managing Partner, presented. She was not only warm and friendly to us as, but to every other customer at the restaurant as well. Mrs. Green and her staff were simply delightful and extremely helpful. We even made friends with some staff who were able to give us some great recommendations!

With priding themselves on being the freshest burger around, the staff at Grub partakes in making fresh buns everyday and only to the highest of standards. All of their meat, may it be beef, turkey, chicken, tuna, crawfish, or salmon, is prepared fresh, which really makes a difference when you are sinking your chompers into their burgers, savory sides, or their extensive salad menu. Burger options include:

The Front Porch – Lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard on a buttered toasted bun.

The Guacapotle – Chipotle aioli, cheddar cheese and handmade guacamole.

The Lockhart Legend – Applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, housemade Dr Pepper BBQ sauce, topped with two hand battered onion rings and sliced dill pickles.

The VooDoo Mushroom – Absinthe sautéed mushrooms with swiss cheese, and Tabasco mayo.

The Texas Luau – Topped with braised pulled pork, a grilled pineapple slice, grilled jalapeños, Teriyaki & BBQ sauce.

The Thai Peanut – Creamy peanut butter, roasted peanuts, cilantro lime coconut flakes, and Sambal mayo.

The Ghost – Pepper Jack cheese, ghost chili sauce, grilled jalapeños, lettuce and tomato.

The You’re My Boy Blue – Crumbled bleu cheese, balsamic caramelized onions, tomato and arugula.

All of their burgers looked and sounded amazing, but the ones that I cherish were The Lockhart Legend, The Voodoo Mushroom, and The Jive Turkey (for a walk on the healthier side).

While all of these burgers brought their own unique style and different twists to my taste pallet, The VooDoo Mushroom Burger and The Jive Turkey Burger stole the show for me. The Lockhart Legend came in as a close 3rd place and was the most visually appealing burger on the menu in my opinion. When talking about The Voodoo Mushroom Burger, the combination of their Swiss Cheese, Sauteed Mushrooms, Tabasco Mayo, and the fresh blend of ground chuck and brisket patty was an entourage that should definitely always be together. When feasting on this “Voodoo Magic” of a Burger, the way all the ingredients seemingly came together in my mouth was a treat to be savored. Everything was simply able to mesh into one and create a little bit of burger heaven that had its own little party in my mouth.

Although it is always hard for me to stray away from the classic beef burger, Grub has one of the best Turkey Burgers that I have ever put in my mouth. With turkey being such a difficult meat to keep moist when cooking, I was pretty amazed by how juicy The Jive Turkey Burger was and how it was presented with sprouts and chipotle aioli stealing the show. The combination of the sprouts with the turkey definitely creates a more than fresh taste when consuming this non-beef specialty. This is one of the most refreshing and “guilt-free” feelings I have had while eating a Burger. The sprouts also added a quintessential “crunch” to the burger, and when combined with the bacon, provided a unique texture.

Although not to be out shined by the extensive Burger menu, we were also able to try some of their Snacks, the Ahi Tuna and their Crawfish Pistolettes. These items surprised me as you do not typically expect to have something like Ahi Tuna or Crawfish with a burger. Although I was pretty taken aback by these options, I was amazed by how nicely prepared these items were and how they are able to bring a different approach to the classical taste of a Burger Barn. The Ahi Tuna was especially exceptional as there was no fishy taste and was up to par with a number of well respected Seafood restaurants that I have frequented. Combined with the Wasabi Teriyaki Vinaigrette, this freshly prepared and sliced Ahi Tuna Steak brought an entirely different aspect than that of what I was expecting. I would love to try the Burger version of this with The Burger of the Sea being a must on my next visit.

A burger place really cannot be considered a true delicatessen unless they have Milkshakes, and man oh man… some of the milkshakes that Grub has will be sure to leave you in pure bliss. Their Kitchen Sink Milkshake comes with Pretzels, Peanut Butter, Salt, Butterscotch Sauce, Caramel Sauce, Chocolate Chips, Coffee Grounds, and Potato Chips. You might be wondering if it is worth the insane amount of calories that I am sure it contains. The answer is a resounding YES!!! This shake is definitely worth the feeling of possibly not being able to move for the next couple of hours as you lay in your milkshake coma and dream of this tantalizing combination of sweet and salty.

With options of specialty shakes such as The Kitchen Sink, classic shakes such as The Vanilla Bean or Mint Chocolate Chip, and even their glorious Spiked Shakes such as The Moonshine American Pie or The Tipsy Worms & Dirt, Grub is more than a Burger Bar. Grub is a specialty of righteous foodie creations as even their Full Service Bar is something to brag about. With 17 unique Draft Beers on tap, 13 Bottled Beers available, 6 Specialty Cocktails, 4 enticing Grub Margaritas, and a combination 9 wine pairing, you will never go thirsty. The Black Magic Mojito is a concoction of Black Cherry Rum, Mint, Razzmatazz, and Real Lime Juice. This version of the classic Mojito may be one of the best in Dallas. Even for lunch at noon.

  1. Quite an array from which to choose! That Jive Turkey Burger looks quite tasty, and by the description, sounds tasty, too!. The sprouts add great eye appeal to the sandwich.
