Doheny Room – Class & Sophistication take center stage in West Hollywood

When one hears the name “Doheny”, the well known street in Beverly Hills is the first thing that comes to mind. However, after discovering the Doheny Room, situated next to the world famous Troubadour and Dan Tana’s restaurant, I knew that Edward L. Doheny would be proud to see that the SBE group have done his namesake justice. The area of West Hollywood where the Doheny Room is located isn’t exact known for its wide open spaces. It’s basically a cluster of traffic, and good luck trying to find street parking. But worry not! There is fast and friendly valet service, so one can focus their attention on the beauty that is Doheny Room.

The Doheny Room is a stunning two-story bar and restaurant that is oozing with sophistication. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the amazingly friendly staff and noticed the ample amount of plant life. I immediately felt transplanted to another place, far away from the insane LA traffic right outside. Posters of famous rock stars and other celebrity types adorn the wall, and give the place an A-list swagger.

So far the ambiance stood out the most, but I was curious to see if their culinary prowess was up to par. With a nice full glass of pink Champaign in hand, I dove in to the first appetizer, a Chicken Slider. This small bite was served on a mini white bun and garnished with Cole slaw and Barbeque sauce. The chicken was crisp and the sauce provided the necessary zing to make it memorable.

The second appetizer resembled a sushi roll and was presented in a small wooden boat. Visually, it was very appealing. The Corn & Asparagus sushi roll utilized the high quality Grana Padana, Yuzu Aioli and Tempura to make a delicious bite.

Next, I was brought the Crispy Brussel Sprouts appetizer. Presented in a wooden cone, this dish has an amazing aroma and smokiness that immediately made my mouth water. Garnished with almonds, balsamic reduction and everyone’s favorite, sriracha sauce; this bad boy was not going to disappoint.

The final appetizer did not dissatisfy. The Italian Meatball bathed in marinara with small crumbles of fresh buffalo mozzarella came out shortly thereafter and I knew my life had changed for the better. The meatball was cooked to perfection and one could tell the sauce was made with love with attention to detail as the primary focus.

Although I satisfied my savory cravings, my sweet tooth was coming on strong. Just at that moment, I was brought out three assorted dessert options. First was a small tin filled with Crème Brule. The top layer was torched to perfection and the stunning crème bottom shook my world up.

The Carrot Cake followed and I was at a loss for words after my first bite. Made with pineapple sorbet, carrot chips and pickled raisins, the deepness of this dessert was remarkable.

The last dessert was the Pana Cotta. Together with the mandarin orange that garnished it, the Panna Cotta was soft, velvet-like and citrusy. It had the texture somewhere in the spectrum of Greek yogurt and pudding and I was one happy camper.

If all these amazing small plates and desserts weren’t enough, Doheny Room offered a diverse cocktail menu to choose from. After discussing the menu with the Mixologist, I decided my first beverage would be the 22 Acres. Made with high quality Grey Goose Vodka, the 22 Acres cocktail is made with fresh squeezed lemon, muddled snap pea, salers, suze and garnished with a snap pea. I appreciated the herbal nature of this cocktail. It was a nice change to what one normally considers a cocktail to encompass.

I followed my first cocktail with the Black Gold. Mixed with Effen Black Cherry Vodka, lemon, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Laphroaig 10 year Scotch, fresh cherries, bitters, and egg whites, this drink gave the Carrot Cake competition for the most depth of flavor.

The Margarita Moreno was my third choice. Prepared with Avion Silver Tequila, pineapple-sage infusion, lime and honey, this cocktail brought me straight back to vacationing in Mexico. The tequila is of the finest quality and goes down smooth.

The final libation creation is known as The Plunkett. Expertly crafted with Belvedere Mango Passion Vodka, lemon, passion fruit, aperol, peychaud bitters, and prosecco, this drink put a cap on an amazing night of discovery.

The SBE group has done it again! With long list of well-known clients, SBE has used its vast wealth of knowledge to make Doheny Room into a stunningly gorgeous bar and restaurant that will please the demanding West Hollywood crowd. Locals will be pleased by the varied and well thought out menu of small dishes and cocktails. I know for a fact that I will be back to try the dinner menu.
