Centro Storico- Little Italy has come to SoBe

Italian food is the ultimate comfort food. Everyone loves their pasta, bread, and, let’s not forget, pizza! And with the recent pizza craze popping up in Miami it would be unfair not to mention Antico Pizza. This place is one of the upcoming pizzerias, originally known in Georgia for their delicious pizza, and newly added to SoBe’s “Little Italy” section at Centro Storico. Centro Storico is also home to Gio’s Chicken, Bar Amalfi, and Caffè Gio. The ultimate area for Italian food lovers.

The food tour starts off at Antico Pizza. All ingredients are brought in direct from Italy, EXCEPT for the water, which believe it or not, is brought in from Atlanta to maintain the product consistency. My favorite part of any pizza is the crust. I love doughy, fluffy crusts. Chef Gio fully delivered on this. The crust on all of this pizzas are so fluffy and doughy. I honestly could eat the crust on its own. But I digress….

Lets talk about the main sttraction… pizza! There were so many to taste I tried to have just a slice of each, but we all know that didn’t happen. So 2-3 slices of each it was! No regrets! The first one fresh out of the wood fired oven was the Pomodorini. This pizza had fresh cherry vesuvian tomatoes, bufala, garlic, and basil. could’ve used a bit more flavor, but overall you can’t never go wrong with pizza.

Next was DIAVOLA. My favorite! This delicious, spicy pizza had  spicy sopressata, pepperonata, and bufala. I probably had close to 4 slices of this pizza. It was too good to leave behind! I do have to warn you to take the peppers out if you can’t handle the heat because they are REALLY spicy. But other than that… the blend of all the meats and the creamy cheese made for a perfect pizza.

Also on the menu… the classic Margherita pizza. Made with san marzano tomato, bufala, basil, and garlic. Can’t go wrong with a classic, and this pizza delivered. If you’re lucky enough you’ll get to bite into a big blob of the bufala. Mmmm so fresh and surprisingly light!

Last but not least was the San Gennaro. This one was made with salsiccia, dolce piccante pepper, bufala, and cipolline. Loved the sausage and pepper combination on this pizza. Just look at it… so gooey and cheesy. You honestly can’t go wrong with a pizza from Antico Pizza at Centro Storico.

Just when you thought it was over…. well we weren’t even halfway in! From Antico Pizza we moved over to Gio’s Chicken to try the famous Georgia chicken made by Chef Gio. We got to try the popular Sorrento Lemon made with fresh Amalfi style lemons, garlic, wild oregano, and olio di oliva. We also got the Scarpiello, which had salsiccia, dolce piccante peppers, cipolline, and aceto rosso. The chicken was tender and cooked perfectly, but it could’ve used a bit more salt. I do recommend soaking up whatever you can in that delicious juice. It holds the flavor to everything!

From pizza, to chicken, to dessert. We walked over next door to Caffe Gio, where we had an espresso and cannoli. That coffee hit the spot! Perfect thing to digest all the food we just inhaled. And you know there’s always some room for dessert! The cannoli was the perfect size. It was freshly assembled in front of us, with a crunchy shell and sweet ricotta filling.

Centro Storico is the perfect addition to South Beach, with its late night hours accommodating party’s goers and tourists alike. Anyone can now reach Gio’s famous Atlanta pizza and chicken in Miami! It’s a dream come true!!! Can’t wait to make my second trip to Antico Pizza for that Diavola!
